Albert Park – Melbourne’s beachside heritage precinct

Albert Park is a heritage suburb located 4kms south of Melbourne’s CBD, bordering the beaches of Port Phillip Bay between vibrant St Kilda and multicultural Port Melbourne. Enjoying a relaxed, beachy vibe and characterised by wide streets, parks and outdoor spaces Albert Park offers solutions for a perfect work life balance. Located only a short tram ride from Melbourne’s CBD it is the ideal location for corporates wanting to be close to the city but also enjoy an outdoor lifestyle and the opportunity to switch off.

Named after Queen Victoria’s consort, Albert Park lake and adjoining parklands give the suburb its name and provide numerous exercise and sporting facilities for Melbournians. It is also an ideal location for our four-legged friends with numerous parks as well as beaches where dogs can be walked off leash. Albert Park is also the home of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix held annually on the lakeside circuit.

First settled in the 1850s, Albert Park was favoured by Melbourne’s elite and wealthy following the gold rush. As a result, the suburb is characterised by the architecture of magnificent terrace homes and residences built in the first half of the 1900s, consisting mainly of Victorian terrace and semi-detached housing. Albert Park’s coast line consists of a straight expanse of wide, sandy beach flanked on one side by the palm tree lined boulevard of Beaconsfield Parade, while on the other side are the calm waters of Port Phillip, ideal for swimming or boating activities.

From a dining perspective there is plenty to choose from in Albert Park, starting with a number of grand old pubs dating back to the late 1800s such as the historic Albert Park Hotel, the Vincent or the Bleakhouse hotel to name a few. Albert Park’s main commercial areas are centered around the popular dining strips of Victoria Avenue and Bridport streets offering a range of cuisines, catering to all budgets along with local boutiques. For those interested in the Arts the Albert Park Gasworks is a local arts precinct that showcases a variety of artists across all genres along with community events and a monthly Farmer’s market.
